“I grew up among vineyards
To dry the vine shoots
In the silence of the old vines
The shadow of my ancestors wanders
Times of chichas and wines
From the wicker basket and the grape harvest
We winegrowers will fall asleep
And the vineyards will remain awake”
Fragment of the poem "Vineyard"

Viña Escuela Vieja is located in the famous Itata Valley, in the Rincón sector, in the commune of Ninhue in the Ñuble Region.
Here, Águedo Hernández and his family make wine and spirits from the "País Misión" vines, recognized as heritage in the region. These vines were introduced by the Jesuit friar Francisco de Carabantes in the 16th century to make mass wine.
These have developed long roots in search of underground water, which due to their depth, ensure their purity and absorption of minerals that give the wine rusticity, complex and exotic aromas and flavors.
The production of alcohol takes place in the heart of the family; the harvest is done through mutual cooperation between members of the community in the area, the winemaking process is purely artisanal, fermentation is carried out with yeasts native to the grape, thus giving it the noblest characteristics of the Itata Valley terroir, and it concludes with aging in the bottle for 4 months in adobe cellars.
We named the vineyard “Escuela Vieja” in honor of the first owners of these vineyards, who gave up their mansions to build the first school in the area, which is currently the center for producing the wine and alcohol that you can now enjoy on your table.
